Founder’s Statement: Why We Exist
My name is Keith Dorsette, and for over a decade, I’ve poured everything I have—time, resources, energy, and faith—into the creation and evolution of SAAF Camp and Celebrate Health. These programs were never created to be dependent on donations or government aid. They were born from necessity, sustained by belief, and built with the unshakable intention to help people live healthier, longer lives.
I know firsthand what non-communicable diseases (NCDs) can do to a family. My mother passed away from multiple sclerosis. My uncle from diabetes. My grandmother—who raised me—was a walking billboard for NCDs: diabetes, high blood pressure and more. I cared for her through most of my life. Her final words were a promise she asked me to keep: “Keefy help people to not be as sick as mommie.” That moment became my mission.
It took years of research, experience, and trial to fully develop what would become SAAF Camp—a transformative NCD prevention program that doesn’t just educate, but gets results. It’s a hands-on, immersive model that empowers participants to improve their health outcomes through education, behavior change, and support. Of the thousands who’ve gone through the program, about a third were fully sponsored. The rest received partial scholarships—usually at least 50% covered. Our 700+ (member base) kid (3x per week) youth program, fully sponsored.
But giving comes with cost. I financed SAAF personally, often at the expense of my own savings. And I would do it again—because the ability to give is a blessing. But I also knew that if I wanted to give sustainably, I had to find a way to give without emptying the well. So I shifted. I built a self-sustaining foundation model: instead of asking for help, I offered help. I offered consultancy and strategic support at no charge to individuals and local businesses—often at critical turning points in their development. Rather than ask for donations, I invested my time and expertise into their success. In return, some pledged a portion of their future gains back to the foundation. This approach evolved into an investment model: we support promising ventures, and those ventures, in turn, help fund our mission. One such commitment—a 25% stake in the sale of a major property—is now poised to support hundreds of future sponsorships through our programs.
We don’t wait for grants. We earn our way forward. With the release of the Celebrate Health book and our global virtual programs, we’re now positioned to touch thousands more lives. And as grow, we make health access more affordable, more effective, and more available to the people who need it most.
We are striving to become one of the strongest and most efficient NCD prevention organizations in the world—not because we want to be recognized, but because we know that prevention is the most powerful form of care. And when you see people reclaim their health, their energy, and their joy, you realize: this is purpose. This is legacy.
