What The Gut Is This!?
A friendly intervention for your most neglected organ
Let’s be honest. Most people can name at least five rappers, recite lyrics they don’t even like, and argue online about artists they’ve never met… but ask them what a gastroenterologist does and you’ll get a blank stare. That’s wild—because your gut runs more of your life than any celebrity ever will.
If your gut is off, everything is off. Energy. Mood. Focus. Sleep. Weight. Immunity. Skin. Even how patient you are with people you “love.” So let’s talk about the gut—without medical jargon, fear-mongering, or pretending everyone’s about to start reading scientific journals for fun.
Your gut isn’t just a food tube. It’s a command center. Inside your digestive system lives 70–80% of your immune system, a massive portion of your nervous system (yes, your gut literally talks to your brain), and trillions of bacteria that decide whether food becomes fuel or inflammation. When the gut works well, you absorb nutrients properly, regulate blood sugar more smoothly, manage weight with less struggle, think clearer, recover faster, and move through life with more resilience. When it doesn’t, you see bloating, gas, reflux, constipation or loose stools, cravings that feel uncontrollable, fatigue coffee can’t fix, and mood swings you chalk up to “stress.” That’s not aging. That’s not normal. That’s neglect catching up.
Most gut problems aren’t dramatic. They’re slow burns. Ultra-processed foods, excess sugar and alcohol, eating late at night, chronic stress, antibiotics, eating fast and distracted—none of these destroy the gut overnight. They quietly wear it down. The gut thrives on rhythm and simplicity. Modern life gives it chaos.
Think of gut health like owning a car. Maintenance means oil changes and no warning lights. Flourishing means smooth rides, better mileage, and fewer breakdowns. Most people aren’t flourishing. Many aren’t even maintaining. They’re driving on fumes, hoping the check engine light goes away on its own.
This is where smart fats come in. Not all fats are villains. Some are tools—when used intentionally.
Virgin coconut oil is a stable saturated fat rich in lauric acid. It supports the gut lining, has antimicrobial properties that can help rebalance gut bacteria, and is easy for many people to digest. One tablespoon in the morning, ideally before food, is a solid starting point. You can take it straight or add it to something warm. Go slow at first—too much too fast can mean loose stools.
Flaxseed oil is a plant-based omega-3 powerhouse. It helps reduce gut inflammation, supports stool regularity, and feeds beneficial gut bacteria. One tablespoon daily is enough. Keep it cold, never heat it, and store it in the refrigerator. Rancid flax oil does more harm than good, so freshness matters.
Extra virgin olive oil is a cornerstone of long-term health for a reason. It feeds beneficial gut bacteria, reduces inflammation, and supports digestion by improving bile flow. One to two tablespoons daily, ideally before meals or used in food prep, goes a long way. Quality matters here—cheap oils don’t deliver the same benefit.
MCT oil is made of medium-chain triglycerides that are easy to absorb and place minimal demand on digestion. It provides quick energy for both the gut lining and the brain, which can be helpful during healing phases. Start with one teaspoon in the morning and work up to one tablespoon. Respect the ramp-up—too much too soon can send you running to the bathroom.
The return on investment for gut care is real. Fewer sick days. More stable energy. Better training and recovery. Less dependence on medications and supplements. Clearer thinking under pressure. You don’t need perfection. You need consistency. A tablespoon here. A habit there. Small inputs. Big returns.
Most people don’t ignore their gut because they don’t care. They ignore it because no one explained it in a way that felt human. So here it is: your gut is talking every single day. The question is whether you’re listening—or just turning the volume down. Knowing every lyric to a song won’t save you when digestion, energy, and health start demanding attention. Taking care of your gut just might.

It’s time you took control.
